How to Access Free Cyber Safety Settings for Greater Peace of Mind

How to Access Free Cyber Safety Settings

How to access free internet safety settings

I know that you are worried about your child’s online safety.  I have been in your shoes!

Yes!  That’s right. I have been where you are today.

I had been in the IT industry for my entire working career. I hadn’t come across safety settings for kids before.  I hadn’t had a need for them………until now!  There had to be features already built into sites and devices that I could use.  I wanted to protect my child on the internet.

I made it my personal mission to know all about safety settings that already existed.

But where to start?

Cyber Safety For Kids

The internet was providing all sorts of opportunities for my child.  She was playing games that were teaching her sounds and letter names, learning co-ordination skills by using the mouse, searching for topics of interest in search engines and enjoying some downtime by relaxing with videos.

I was noticing websites with games that had ads running down the side.  You know the ones. Some were for banks, some were for food or baby products.  Others featured rather scantily clad women.  I wasn’t keen on my daughter viewing those types of pictures and who knows where the link would take her if she clicked on it.

I recall a time she was selecting a game to play from a list of games on a website.  When she left the room I had a bit more of a look around and clicked on ‘Girls Games’ down the bottom.  Where this link took me made my heart skip a beat.  A pornographic site.

The internet was providing a few too many opportunities for my child.

There are 9 Free Ways that you can manage kid's content and screen time

SafeSearch

Children are curious creatures. Left alone, they could be ‘googling’ anything their little hearts desire!  What if they made a spelling error?  Say, for example, they meant to type ‘six’ but typed ‘sex’ instead?  Can you imagine what type of content the search engine would throw back?  And if they clicked on images?  I shudder just thinking about it.

Google and most other major search engines have a free SafeSearch feature you can activate that filter out adult content!

YouTube Restricted Mode

Youtube restricted mode

How popular is Youtube with kids?!  They can spend hours passively consuming videos of their favourite cartoon characters, people opening boxes (go figure?), other kids videos about Barbies or how to make slime.  Videos about just about anything and everything!

Some videos contain adult content, violence and copious amount of swearing along with poorly worded and innappropriate comments below that your child can read.

That’s where YouTube Restrictions and Parent Supervised Accounts comes in.  Another free feature that can be set to filter out adult content and hide nasty comments.

Parental Controls

Most devices these days have parental controls that can be activated.  IPads, iPods, iPhones, Macs and PCs.  Free settings that can assist parents in filtering content and managing screen time.

Cyber Safety Fact

My research uncovered one very important fact.

It turned out that I could minimise the chances of my child seeing porn, inappropriate videos and comments and even stop them from downloading pricey and unsuitable apps!

It is possible to create a greater peace of mind using features that are already at your fingertips.

I’ve used my research and my journey to create an ebook to share this information.  You don’t have to struggle anymore. The ebook is easy to follow with pictures and arrows designed specifically for parents.  It’s broken up into sections to cut down on the overwhelm – you don’t need to do everything in one sitting.  Get started today and check out “The Ultimate Guide to Setting Safety Controls on Children’s Devices“.
