HTH (Hope This Helps) – Internet Slang And Abbreviations

10/14/2016

IDK if it is my imagination, but sometimes IC paragraphs of txt that I don’t understand b/c it is abbreviated beyond comprehension and it makes me start SMH.

Did you get all that?

Internet Slang

Kids are instant messaging, texting and generally writing in a different language on social media and in chat rooms.  I have literally had to ask my daughter to translate a text I received from my 25 year old cousin because I did not understand the internet slang and abbreviations that she used.  But no longer am I intending to rely on the services of my children. I am arming myself with a handy reference of some of the most common abbreviations and internet slang.  And I’m sharing it with you!

What is the point of monitoring my children’s digital online behaviour if I don’t have a clue what they are talking about?  I could just leave it at being happy that they are communicating with a friend and I truly don’t feel the need to check everything they write but, if I do see some text, then I want to be able to understand it (and I like to freak out my kids by dropping abbreviations into my sentences).
